About the event
Join the Merrimac Farm chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists on ARBOR DAY (how fitting!) to celebrate the diverse hands that make up the natural world...and our community. This event will feature hands as a diversity theme. We will spend the first half of the event learning some words in American Sign Language (ASL) which relate to the earth, plants, and animals. Then, we will have a group activity making fidget boxes with cool, textured items from the great outdoors.
Fidget boxes are a great recourse for some neurodivergent folks/those with ADHD who benefit from keeping their hands occupied to focus or reduce anxiety. Take the fidget boxes home and please offer them at your next outreach event, or give them away to someone you know who would benefit from this stress-reducing tool as you tell them about our program!
This fun and meaningful event welcomes all! This is held at the Bull Run Unitarian Universalists building in the basement. There is an elevator in the building. Those who speak other languages (or even other sign languages!) are also invited to attend and share translations. For questions, please contact the host, Shea C. Megale, who currently serves as the chapter's diversity officer: scmegale@gmail.com
