Wonderful Water
Protecting Our Watersheds
Rivers and streams are the lifeblood of a watershed. A watershed is the area of land where all the rain and snow drain into the same river, stream, or lake. These waterways carry water across the land and provide habitat for fish, birds, and other wildlife.
When streams are healthy, the water is clear, the banks stay strong, and plants and animals can thrive. But streams can be harmed by erosion, trash, and polluted runoff from roads, yards, and farms.
Virginia Master Naturalists help protect and restore our waters through science, stewardship, habitat restoration, and education.
