About the event

This hike series is free and open to VMN Members, their families, and the general public.

For our October hike, we'll explore Bull Run Mountains Natural Area Preserve. This property consists of old-growth forest that will (fingers crossed!) be showing some beautiful fall color during our visit. This Preserve also protects the cultural history of families who lived on the mountain.

A few members will share some planned remarks about the ecology and natural history of the property, but we encourage everyone to share their expertise as we hike.

Site notes: the trails are accessed over an at-grade railroad crossing that is not wheelchair-accessible. The crossing requires visitors to step over raised railroad tracks and ties. Trails are natural-surface, primarily hard-packed earth with some exposed rocks and roots, and feature moderate elevation gain. Dogs are not allowed on the property. Parking lot is gravel, with one portable toilet available.
